Not exactly original but I was quite pleased with the ease with which I could take this with the V1-FT1-70-200 combo handheld.
I'm thinking this will come in handy for the odd sports shoot that pops up and together with a gimbal head be useful for a few surfing and birding situations.

Sensational. Now, how about attaching it to the new (yet to come) Sigma 150-600mm? Now THAT would be reach indeed. You'll almost be able to see the moon men running around on the cheese...

That would certainly be reach.

And almost see the moon men would be entirely accurate. The absence of acuity on the Coke Bottle would ensure that you had an extreme close up of a gigantic blurred something-scape.

Michael, excellent work. The gimbal would be an essential part of the kit with the 70-210, given the level of magnification involved. We stuck the FT-1 on the back end of my 80-400; that is venturing very heavily into solid tripod country.

I certainly think that > 200mm would only be worth considering with a solid support.
The 70-200 works ok as it is both sharp and contrasty, but even then I think a gimbal is going to be needed much of the time.
Using a 400 (giving 1080) or 600 (1620) is likely to be a leap tooo far !!!

Given the Moon is very bright, with high contrast to it's surrounds, it's likely that this shot actually makes the combo look better than it really is.
I'll be keen to try a little sports shooting or wildlife to really test it out, and where it's shortcomings, I suspect, will become apparent.

Still, always happy when a modest investment yields something better than expected
