Portrait in melbourne…...

Well my sister asked me for a few more images for her web page which meant a trip to melbourne with my husband and 3 out of the 4 kids as well. So we wandered around to a few locations and this is my favourite image from the day. Would love to know your thoughts and how if possible I may improve for the next time. (she is after them regularly)

Sarg, this is a cracker. The colours are excellent, the expression is great. Even the lensless glasses (I assume) make for a professional portrait.

Now, if only you had taken this in Sydney, it would be perfect...

Actually they were her new glasses I picked up for her from our local specsavers with the anti glare treatment on them…… so there was real lenses in them!! hahahah
Oh and we will have to agree to disagree about the whole sydney thing!!

Wonderful portrait ! Love her expression, so relaxed and comfortable, something every portrait photographer strives for.
My only small observation would be the orange graffiti on the lower left is glowing and a bit too hot from the flash or reflector or whatever you used and it's a bit of a distraction. A bit of a local brightness adjustment is all that's needed there if you felt it necessary.

Nothing really wrong with the image but I can suggest a few things to look for in future...

Firstly the pose from your sister is showing quite a bit of neck strain due to the twist and lean into the wall.
Also if she posed with her head pulled slightly toward the camera this can tighten the jawline for better definition (needs to be subtle).
A small reflector from below can also be helpful but needs an extra pair of hands.
Not sure of your lens selection here but a longer/faster lens can give you some improvement in background separation.
Finally in post you could give her a little boost by knocking a little exposure from the surroundings, especially the background but also the wall in front.

Of course you can also decide the above is a bunch of nit-pick hooey as it is for the most part a perfectly acceptable and nature shot.

Thanks folks, MJ will certainly adapt your suggestions for the next time and in PP I will try get rid of or reduce the impact of the orange patch as suggested.

Great portrait. I think cropping it to square
format and having her eyes in the two thirds
it will work even better.
