Missed it by that muchyou know... the shots where almost everything worked as you wanted but was missing that one critical thing...
exactly how i wanted it, all 3 visible, exposure dead on...the perfect mono but i chopped the top of his damn horn off. . by .Chris.K, on Flickr rare you get the cats up close but i couldnt manage to get eye contact in a single frame. . by .Chris.K, on Flickr Untitled by .Chris.K, on Flickr this guy obediently stayed still while i shot some frames, the background colour perfect...but the damn thing was in full sun so the lighting and contrast is too harsh. . by .Chris.K, on Flickr EM1 l 7.5 l 12-40 l 14 l 17 l 25 l 45 l 60 l 75 l AW1 l V3
Re: Missed it by that muchExcellent all of them. However, #1 is #1 for me. I like
the composition, the contrast and its almost surreal look, which makes it visually so appealing to me.
Re: Missed it by that muchTake #1 and make a massive print for the wall. It is that good.

Re: Missed it by that much#1 looks like a pro advertisement. It's very different and demands attention. I like the Snow leopard. It's one of the best I've seen of that very difficult to catch creature.
Regards
Matt. K
Re: Missed it by that muchThe leopard is amazing. The giraffes are also excellent. I understand what your comments about chopping the horn off, but I don't really think it matters in this case. I've never seen three giraffes like this before.

Re: Missed it by that muchThanks everyone for the consolation to my incompetence. lol
Ozi, I was on a "roar and snore" event at taronga zoo with my son. One of our experiences was walking into the giraffe enclosure and feeding the giraffes while they were in their house. That's why I could get the shot. All 3 were inside sticking their heads out into the sun so the inside of their house was dark but the low sun was lighting them up. I saw this shot immediately but couldn't pull it off. That's why I'm annoyed at myself cos I won't get another chance like that and it's a rookie error that did me over. Re: Missed it by that muchstill nice stuff Chris, some days it's just on and others well..its like golf
Have you tried wrangling some detail from the shadows on that macro shot? gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Missed it by that much
Yeah, thanks Gerry. The body of the bug was brought out by around 1.5 stops in post; that's as much as the oly can deliver without it looking funny. The shot was originally UE by around 3 stops to bring out the background colour and protect blown highlights as much as possible in the harsh sun. Missed it by that muchThe giraffe shot is excellent despite the short coming of the cropped horn. Print it BIG.
