Simple, beautiful and clever. It takes commitment to stop the car, get out and create the image.

Yeah but I didn't actually get out (here) Matt
Rested the very heavy 50-500 on the window ledge so I could shoot it handheld

To make the image, first you need to be able to see it.
Well spotted. The rest is, and the result, is awesome.

Nice shot Rodney. Glad you stayed in the car and not on the road!
Which begs a question (especially in New Zealand conditions): How many times do you see an incredible vista unfold only to find that there's no opportunity to safely stop and take a pic? I've taken my life into my own hands a few times on NZ's twisty roads, but thinking back, it's most probably not worth it.

I agree that it is a lovely image.
I do have one query, and that is to ask what focal length was used on your 50-500? Edit: After installing EXIF tool, found, as I thought, that it was 210mm.
I was thinking that the road looks a little compressed and that a wider focal length might give you more apparent depth into the image.
Just a thought - but it is very good as it is.

Nicely captured. It looks like a motorcyclists road for sure.
