Stayed at a hotel the other night. As I was about to go to sleep the light through this window caught my eye. It took 3 tries to get it right. ISO 400 gives it a grainy look. Pillow was the tripod. Probably shutter speed of 18 seconds or so. f6 or so.
Almost looks like a painting to me with boosted exposure in CS and it being not really really sharp. Please critique, I don't take a lot of pictures like this and want to get better at them.

Dave, the shadows look almost spooky and I think the grain adds to the feel of the image. I would have liked to have seen a wider angle perspective but inside a hotel room with a pillow as a tripod you've done a great job.

Looks almost like a scene from a murder mystery game.

Interesting colour choice - brown. I'd like to see it rendered in moonlight blue though, that might give the image a whole different feel.

Onyx, I thought about that, but it really isn't true to the room as the room is earthy and brownish. I tried to fiddle with WB etc and cooling filters in CS but they didn't really do it so I stuck with the mahogony feel.

Jordan, thanks for the comment. The only thing I wished I could have gotten more of is the window, but that would have sacrificed some of the reflection on the ceiling, and there wasn't really anything of interest to the left of the lamp or the right of the window (the black thing on the right is a tv caninet).

It's quite a moody shot, and does suggest something eerie or spooky is about to happen.

I feel that it just needs something more - a figure in silhouette, for example.

But, you weren't there with models (please tell me you weren't there with models!) and it is a very interesting image.

Yeah, it has a touch of Bates Motel about it.

Love the atmosphere it brings out. Agree with the comments abt grain and maybe having a figure in it. Would've been interesting if you had walked in front of the camera when the shutter was open. I did that in a photo once and scared a friend who thought it was a ghost

Dooda, I like it a lot, the light really plays on that ceiling. I would like either more in it, like the window etc (this was taken at 22mm, maybe have tried 18mm or better still used the 12-24) or more of a story with it eg more of the room. Nice shot

If I could have walked in front of the camera I definitly would have, but unfortunately It would have shaken the camera too much as it was on a pillow pointed upwards.

Funny, I thought that I shot this at wide 18mm? Perhaps I zoomed a little to get any pillows or blanket out of the shot, it's all a little hazy...

I'm not sure about aliens, but the light got brighter until I passed out and woke up 1 week later...YOU DECIDE! (eerie music to play as my diabolical laughter fades out).

I wasn't there with models, and if I were I don't think that I'd have them posing for the camera...if you know what I mean.
