Late night storm

Well, I love to head out and take photos during a good storm and last night was one of those perfect nights for it. Sadly there was a lot of rain and as a result I was unable to take many more shots due to no protection for my camera etc. However, I got what I believe is an absolute cracker in my first frame. I was and still am so happy when I see it. There is very little editing done to the image other than the contrast adjustment and a little less highlight to the image. Colour is as it was, no adjustments to it at all.

This was taken about 5 minutes from home down beside the sewage water treatment plant. (to left in image) I usually don't head to this location as it does have some trees and high sections around it but its where the edge of the storm was and I figured i'd stay dry there. Sadly I didn't stay dry as huge rain droplets hit me and my gear. Glad to say all safe and dry now.

Hope you enjoy the shot as much as I did taking it and sharing it.

That 1/500,00th of a second captured forever for the world to see. Amazing.

Great shot, I love how much lightening you have managed to get in the frame. Did you use some sort of trigger?

Thanks for the great comments. I actually just used my wire shutter cable, makes it easier and less prone to having any camera shake. Its such a difficult thing to photograph. This was literally taken straight after i focussed on the furtherest thing in the distance and set my settings accordingly. Within seconds the lightning cracked across the sky and I was pumped I had it set up in time. I was in the right place at the right time. Something tranquil about storms to me, I just love getting out in them and enjoying being close to the action. :)

Outstanding capture Sarg. I seem to have missed most of the storms this season, and we've had plenty of them. You have made a sensational image. (God provided the subject, of course.)

Very good, I like the crop you have presented with the lighting strike coming in from the top corner.
