Went to Bowral for the weekend. Before I went looked on the net for any interesting photo op.

Found this place, the malting at Mittagong. It closed in 1980's there is another building on the other side of the creek behind me and to the right. All the internal stairs have be removed and the building inside partly demolished. There were originally three building, all three over time caught fire now only two remain.

Good stuff Tony. I imagine the local kids find this a great hangout...

If I could offer some thoughts for constructive critique:

Photo 01:
I like the composition but find the main subject (the building) doesn't have much contrast from the foreground - but has a huge contrast from the sky.
I would be inclined to either darken the sky and/or darken the foreground, so your eye is led towards the main subject more (or perhaps just make the building brighter).

I would also clone out the tree that looks to be growing from the rooftop on the RHS building.

Photo 02:
I would add lens correction to this to fix up the slight backwards tilt and the strong vertical lines.
I really like that you can see part of the building through the windows - the one on the right looks a little overexposed. I wonder if that could be brought back a little in post-production?

Also, did you capture an image just of the symbol? - that would look good also.

Photo 03:
Again I would add lens correction to fix the vertical lines.
It is a shame the steps on the LHS are cut-off. I really like the thought process behind this image.

Looks like you had a good time in any case.

I agree with the above. However, because the steps are cut off in the 3rd picture I would simply crop them out altogether to make the central subject more prominent.

This building is a great subject and looks very spooky on a dark, stormy day. You can't go past it without taking a photograph. I agree with the above comments in that they would improve the image somewhat, but still a great job.

I think a BW treatment could be excellent with the first two.

Thanks for the comments Dave, much appreciated for the feedback

1 was shot early morning and I got north wrong, I should have been there in the afternoon.
2 A lot of shot were overexposed and I had pull it back bit but it was just to much. I did correct the verticals a bit.
3 Yer, I was focused on the horse.

Thats was the idea I had in mind, but it was either overcast or sunny and I just could not get a position I liked.

All in all it was a bit of failure.

I have some shots of the other building as well, which I put up.

I prefer the second b&w to the colour version. It has more visual impact.

BW works a treat especially with the vignette. Looks dark and foreboding.
