Well I haven't the actual photographs to share yet, but my husband tonight decided he liked the colours in the sky and asked me for my camera to go take some photos. So when I get it back I will check out his work and post a few of his first time efforts. Im impressed he wanted to go out and figure everything out..... I did have a phone call which I then gave him some simple directions how to adjust the ISO on the xt1. So here's looking forward to some newbies photos.... who knows he might create his own DSLR account himself! lol

Will be in touch with the images tonight! :D

Well, I think he's hooked. He came home for tea and is already talking about heading back out again later tonight.
It seems to be a half decent night tonight for some astrophotography / starscapes. So he's admit he's heading out again after this earlier attempt at catching the gorgeous colours at dusk. Bellow are three of the 8 images he took. He obviously has work with composition but overall for his first ever photos alone without me being there bossing him around he did pretty well in my opinion.

I like this first shot because of the tree, he wants to go get a portrait version of it next time.

This next one was just around to the right from where the last was taken, he loved the stars and the moon.

This last one he was really impressed with as he loved the clusters of stars he captured. Hence wanting to go back and find a compositionally better spot. :)

All were taken on my Fuji xt1 with the 14mm Wide Angle lens shot at f3.2 at ISO 200. :)

I have also advised him that at 30 seconds I was seeing a bit of star trails so he's been listening and said he will adjust the shutter speed..... I must say I was impressed he knew what to change!! :D

I like the colours in the first two, but I prefer the composition in #3. Did he use a tripod? Once he develops a taste for photography, you will have a hard time getting your camera back, which in turn may be a good excuse to buy yourself a new one. :D

Hey Zaf, yeah he used my Manfrotto tripod. It was a little breezy on the night so thats why theres obviously a bit of movement in the trees. I will be more than happy if he gets into it, however it will become a problem when we both want to go out to take photos as we will then have to take the kids too!! No doubt I will get him his own camera in the future but in the meantime I don't mind him learning with mine.
The colours were stunning that night..... if only i didn't have to stay home and cook the meal for the family we could have captured it a bit longer!! O well I guess there is a need to feed the tribe. Can't have them starving so I can join in!!

If you are a professional photographer I guess you can take advantage of those famous $20,000 in the budget for small business, buy yourself new equipment and pass the old one down the line; otherwise, you need to stick to your plan A.
I agree a hungry hubby and kids are an awful thought. You can always have a good casserole as a standby, or even better teach them to cook so they can feed themselves. It's called empowerment. But, I wouldn't' like to clean after them, I guess. :D
