To be honest Murray, I'm finding the 90mm very slow to focus, even for a Fuji. Sometimes it takes ages to lock on, even with the current 4.0 firmware. However there may be reasons for this. The two shooting sessions I have done this week have been after work eg late afternoon with lowering skies, so I'm working with high ISO. Because there's no IS/VR on this lens, and because I'm photographing little kids, I've kept the shutter speed up at 1/250. I did try all three focus settings and it didn't seem to make much difference. I also tried with and without facial/eye recognition. (I usually shoot without it at F2 because even though it picks up the face, getting the eye in focus is another thing.)
I will admit I haven't yet mastered the new firmware. The 90mm is a portrait lens. Most of the time a subject will be still, so there's no problem. The 90mm definitely won't be used for sports or animals.
Maybe I should read up on the XT1 4.0 firmware and try and get some improvements out of the system?
