Opinions Good, Bad, Ugly?

The image has some lovely elements but lacks a focal point....something for the eye to lock onto. Perhaps something or somebody in the foreground would have provided this....IE a dog running in the sand or a piece of driftwood.

Matt has raised a good point about the focal point, however for me the image lacks continuity, the line of the water acts a nice lead however its sends the viewer out of the frame since its cutoff at both sides. The sun is a nice anchor point and more so for this BW however, it also sends the viewer crashing out the right hand side of the frame due to the fact its placed soo close to the edge.

In hindsight (bearing in mind I have never seen this spot) I would have considered a wider panoramic option, capturing the curve of the water on the left (as it leads around to the headland) such that the viewer could move from the bottom right to the left side then back across to the bright sun. The sun would also be better placed at the intersection of the top right hand side third. I think with the wider view you could get away without having a strong focal point ie log in the foreground.

Bearing in mind what it has been said above, I believe the focal point is the sun. Bu, I agree that it needs something else.

This was taken in 2006, at that time I was using the kit lens only. Thanks very helpful and I agree with then and the same with Matts comment.

The trouble with your own work its hard to see it sometimes for what it is. I have shown this to a couple of people and they have liked it, but I was not, at all sure about it. It good to get good feedback, so thanks.
