When I was in Queensland I got to play with some lens. Now this lens I was impressed with, the shots are not great but wide and sharp.

And you've certainly nailed that second shot.

I'd say buy the beach. Then you can make your own glass with all of the sand.

I disagree, both pictures are very nice indeed. But, the second is best.

Can a lens be too sharp? I would say yes for a portrait lens....but for landscapes? Comments?

Nope. Nope. Nope.

The concept of "too sharp", in a lens, does not exist for me. We can always soften in post, but if you want that extra sharpness, say, a portrait of a person with a weathered face, then I don't want the glass to get in the way of that.

I with Gary on this one.
I went and brought a 16-35 F4 a month ago because the 24-105 was soft in the corners. I would over come this by shooting wide and crop if I could.

I don't think the problem is whether a lens is too sharp, but when an image is so sharp that defies normal vision and becomes unrealistic to the eye.
