I like both of these images very much. They show technique and artistry. And they are interesting. if I have one quibble it is that the rear of the pebbles is not clearly defined. I'm guessing that a little feathering was applied when making the selction to drop the background to white,
Nice work!

OK. I get it Dave. The edges have picked some reflections off the white background making them look slightly softer on the back edges. It's hard to get a pure black in a background....and you've nailed that one, but I think a white background can be even more difficult to control. Perhaps move the subject a little further foreward. Here's a trick...a tray of dry ice in the background creates a soft beautiful fog can add a touch of mystery and beauty to backgrounds and hide any seams or edges.

Which begs the question ... from where would you acquire some dry ice these days? Can you get some at Colesworths?

Easy to obtain from various suppliers. A quick Google gets you there.Often used in disco tec raves and such young peoples nonsense. I have seen it used in studio shoots to mist up the background......it create very sensual softness in portraits if used creatively.

Nice, I like the screws, you have done well to make a boring everyday subject interesting.
I would like to see results of some dried ice too - how about one of those little misting oil burner thingy's they generate lots of cool mist too..
