Not really, unless the patience refers to waiting for the two or three years that this section of George St has been closed due to the construction works in place for the Eastern Suburbs light rail.
George St has been anything but busy during this period.
The construction is a movable feast, with closures now around Eddy Avenue, Elizabeth and Foveux Sts causing inconvenience to all and sundry. Hopefully this will be worth the pain, but the loss of many trees, is unbelievable vandalism on the part of the government, and the length of the actual trains, being the longest in the world, I believe, may present some new traffic issues as intersections are blocked.
The sad thing is that, in the '50s, I was raised in Kingsford - where this system is terminating - and in those days there were the trams that ran from the city through Kingsford to Maroubra and La Perouse, as well as other services into Bondi, Bronte and Coogee. Those services were removed and lines pulled up, and now we're basically putting them back!
If you drive down Anzac Pde in the Moore Park area, the bus roadway used to be where the trams ran, but no, that's not where the new trams will be running. And again, if you drive further along Anzac Pde, from Kingsford through Maroubra Junction and on to La Perouse, that big stretch of land in the middle of the road - Including the car parking area opposite Souths Junior's - was the trams' right of way.
Ah well ...
