Inverted Macro of Pollen

Another pollen shot with the Nikon 28-200 and Hoya +4 combination. I think this shot works best inverted but i can't seem to make the petals work .. i've tried saturation, desaturation, b&w, playing with the levels, "reverting" them .. nothing seems to complement the central image. I've left it just inverted .. perhaps someone can suggest something else i can try.

Image PS .. I was clearly never a Fairy God Mother in a previous life because my magic wand skills suck .. any suggestions for improving this particularly in the OOF edge areas would be appreciated

Cheers,
