Adavale Pub (A pub with no beer)

We drove 187 km from Charleville to Adavale, a rural town of 72 people in outback Queensland, only to find the pub closed and the landlord away to buy beer and provisions from a nearby town called Quilpie, 98 km away. Adavale had its heyday between 1889 and 1930, but the Western railway line bypassed Adavale in 1917 and went instead to Quilpie and as a result of this Adavale declined. Adavale is now a pub, a police station, a few scattered houses and vacant plots all showing the vestiges of a big fire that ravaged the town.
