The Court of the Lions (Patio de los Leones) or Palace of the Lions is a palace in the heart of the Alhambra. The Alhambra is a a complex of palaces, gardens and forts in Granada, Spain. It was commissioned by the Nasrid sultan Muhammad V of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus. Its construction started between 1362 and 1391 AD. The patio is a rectangular courtyard with a marble fountain with twelve sculpted lions.

That is very interesting.

Although this is in Spain, the Arabic influences in the architecture are very easy to see.

I think that every home should have a courtyard and fountain. :)

Thank you, Gary. The Arabs dominated and controlled the south of Spain for over 800 years, till they were driven out of the Iberian Peninsula in 1492. Many of the houses in in the south have indeed a central square courtyard with pot plants and a little fountain in the middle. I'll check my archives to see if I still have an old photo.
