First Macro shots:

Taken at the Royal National Park today. Ann (girlfriend) kindly allowed the company of the D70 as well ;)

Had an encounter with a little fella like this virtually as soon as we ventured from the car park at Wattamolla (SP?)

18-70 DX (Twas on the camera at the time)

I stepped over one of these (didn't realise) and then hear a strangled squak from behind. Ann had spotted it. A bit of stamping and he kindly moved along. I ventured bravely further down the path, and upon return found Ann besieged by the vile beasts. About 3 of them had moved past the rock she was encamped upon.

Just an obliging spider having a meal. He had about 10 future (or maybe past) meals lined up above him.

Will probably add some more shots over the next few days when I get a chance to PP them. BTW Birddog, Ann says she will come to a mini meet some time if there are cooking classes going ;)[/list]

Nick, you are gamer than me mate and i think i would be trying to hide behind Ann, that would be impossible but yeh i am so petrefied of snakes it is unreal. As a kid on the farm we had i think i had 10 cats and hated everytime they brought a dead 1 home and leave it at the door. I also was chased by one when we was carting hay 1 year but lucky the dog took over the chase. When i was driving busses and did a lot of school trips to the River Land in SA and we would end up at Bredals Reptile park in Renmark, i hated it because of the snakes. LOL I am a big chicken but yeh i would have been in the car and gone.
Great capture.
Cheers

BBJ: Yeah, well I've nearly trodden on a 2m Brown snake. Was in Sydney mode and thought a curled up snake in the Blue Mountains was a toy snake someone had left. I was lukcy my cousin grabbed me and stopped me intentionally planting my foot on it!

Chris: Glad to be a member of the club, it's a nice lens and fits my needs and means well.

Good to see you're giving the lens a workout. The standout shot here for me is the one of the flower (grevillea I'm guessing) which has good DOF (although removing the OOF twig would have been nice!). I also like the print in the sand. Well spotted and executed.

Yeah, would have been good, but couldn't really be done. As it was, I had to stick the camera right into the bush to get that shot.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Those snakes can give you a little fright when they scurry across the road when I'm zipping through the RNP on a regular basis (motorbike  )

Where abouts was that cliff picture taken (5th picture), I havent really ventured off the main road through the park to find the good photo spots  too much fun fanging my way to Bald Hill.

That pic is taken along a walk called the Coast Walk, a few k's north of Wattamolla. I'm surprised, in this day and age, that it's not fenced off actually, as it's a fairly well patronised track and a whopping great bloody cliff with rocks and ocean below. I have some shots that include the ocean and rocks below but the dynamic range was too big for the camera to really capture.

EDIT: Quick PS job (merged a bumped exposure and normal to bring out some shadow detail. I'm still new to this):

The first shot with the bee is great. Especially for handheld  . Wish I was that steady

Those are some very nice shots! I'm very taken with the 3rd shot, the side view of the spider. :D
