not sure if it's my LCD monitor at work or not, but the image looks a little soft, to me.
Was there much light when you took the photo ?

I also have the Sigma APO II and find that unless you have really good lighting, it's hard to get great shots (in macro, especially at extreme focal length - 300mm).

Was this a handheld shot as well ?

Handheld, and it is in fact a bit soft. The DOF is very shallow. I really needed more light or a tripod, but I liked the flowers soo much I had to give it a go
