Well it was my first day out with my Nikkor 70-300 G el cheapo lens. I bought this lens to get me through a few months until I can get a better one. So far I am pretty happy with it, considering it was only $129. Here's some pics I took with it and my manfrotto monopod while out walking with my dog.

As a fellow owner of the dreaded "G", I'd have to say that these photos are about as good as it gets with this lens. I think they're great shots that you can be very proud of. You have a wonderfully picturesque environment to play in and I think you're going to have a lot of fun wiht that piece of glass until you're ready to move on. I'm slowly convincing my wife of the benefits of a VR lens.... any year now, I reckon!

I have to agree with Simon, you play a pretty sweet tune on that lens. It goes to show that with skill and good choice of subject it doesn't always take the most expensive glass to get an expressive photo. Nicely done.

Beltbuckle - there are no problems with these pics. My theory is that you can put a bad lens in the hands of a good photographer and get great pics. Put a great lens in the hands of a bad photographer and get crap

Those are some nice shots. I really like the shot of your pup. :D

I'd suggest reducing your sharpening a notch though, especially on shots like the first one, where sharpening halos are easily seen on tree branches. :)

Excellent shots there.

I have the Sigma el cheepo and will soon take time out to give it a proper workout and I'll be very happy if the quality of my photos approaches the excellent quality of yours.

I bet after walking your dog, your new task would be "washing" your dog :D

Cheers

Graham

Right you are about my dog. First thing we did when we got home was take the hose out and give her a good hose down!
