Kookaburras

I came across a couple of kookaburras whilst picnicking in the bush.

Nice work Trevor.
I think I prefer the colouring of the second image - the first, while I'm sure it's an accurate rendition of the true conditions, seems a bit washed out. Interesting to compare the "lushness" of the scrub in comparison to some of Mudder's southern forest shots and Leek's Blue Mountains 'cookie borough' postings.
May I ask where the shots were taken?

Hi Simon. Thanx for replying. I've now altered the WB on the first pic.
The photos were taken out back of Samford, around Closeburn.
Kookaburras are opportunistic birds that aren't terribly afraid of being too close to humans, so from that perspective they are ready subjects.
However, they do have "Aussie bush" colouring and tend not to stand out like more brightly coloured birds. And, as lacking in colour as their backs are, their fronts are just a dirty white colour - not very photographic at all.
