Nice collection there Onyx - #3 and #4 appear to be a bit dark, are you seeing the same darkness to the images on your monitor

Nice as always Chi. It's hard to convey its impact in photos though. What did you think of it? Impressive, is it not? Spectacular stuff, as is the setting. I think we took the same ferry too!

Here's some macro type shots from the weekend. I'm especially proud of these cos it came out of the camera well exposed and rendered - no blown whites on the white flower and superbly sharp details. I am yet to find any fault with this 18-70 lens.

Chris - blame my newly "calibrated" monitor on the darkness. They're supposed to be black, so I metered and compensated accordingly... But anyhow, I'm finding my Spyder calibrated display to have an ugly purple tint to the supposedly black darker shadows - maybe I'll give another go at the calibration.

Lantau is a gorgeous island - so far removed from the big city life of Hong Kong. I'm surprised to hear other ferry passengers talk of hiking trails and the like. I must return there!

I stumbled upon a fashion show on the w'end too. I'll process them pics and paste them up to give you guys a gawk at the eye candy.

Love the macro of the lotus, though I'm biased as the lotus has a lot of meaning to me

My friend showed me similar photos of giant buddha statues from his trip to Thailand.

Nice pics - we just got back from 2 weeks in HKong (where I got my D70) I went a bit nuts and took 1200 shots in 4 days mostly experimenting but a lot in auto so I wouldnt stuff them up too much.

I have a great one of a 'symbol' painting in a MacDonalds that I am debating whether to put up. No one locally seemed to know what it meant but it sure as hell looked like something 'out there'

We went up to the big buddha as well. Did you have the vegetarian lunch ? It was great even for a meat eater !

Did you take the dodgy buses up to the buddha (I swear old men on bikes past us going up the hill LOL).

If I do train some more students in Hong Kong again I will be hitting the camera stores for lenses as I didn't know enough last time round..

Thanks guys. Yeah the flower macros were the best pics from my weekend I think. The landscape type pics documenting my travels were crap due to the hazy and every grey skies... And pperator error ruined much of the Seibu fashion show pics (yet to come).

No I didn't eat at the monastery - I went to Tai O (local fishing village) for a seafood feast afterwards.  LOL the dodgy busses, with all them hills on the island I would imagine it's a lucrative business maintaining those busses!

rathalian - HKSupplies is always welcoming of D70users wanting camera bits. But for retail, Wing Shing in Mongkok has the best prices and service IMO. Forget Stanley St in Central as recommended in nearly all shopping guides - that's a place for sucker tourists (selection ain't all that great either).
