How do you find the Sigma? I have one as well and its pretty much the only lense I now shoot with given the oppurtunity

Kerry - you made me do this!

That first one is some weird dog. I can't decide whether it's ugly or cute, but whatever, it's a beautiful shot. Great lighting, nice sharp focus and excellent composition. And you used a Sigma. Imaging how much better this would be with Nikkon glass

The second shot is good also, but I find the ring above the dog's head very distracting - maybe a little cloning or a blur needed?

And the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX APO IF is proving to be a winner.

You obviously love dogs Kerry and, as always, your shots are superb.

The first dog is adorable, can’t remember the name, but do know that they are a Chinese sacred dog.

Cordy (Chris): I like the lens a great deal, especially after the marathon sessions I had at the dog show where these shots were taken.

Peter: You're correct about the dog's lead being distracting, but I don't usually put a lot of effort into post processing for stuff going to pbase. The first shot is of a Sharpei, (sp?) the loose skinned, wrinkle dog. My Sigma 70-200 has a paint job with Nikkor on the side and sports a Nikkor lens cap..

sirhc55 (Chris): Yes, I love animals, dogs especially. I have a pair of Akitas. IIRC, you're correct in that the Sharpeis were dogs reserved to the royalty in China.

All that extra skin and hair, what a waste. I'm sure if I could just lop a little off he wouldn't notice.

Thanks, Dave. Seems to me that noise isn't much of an issue on shots that are exposed properly or slightly overexposed. You'll still see it, especially in the shadow areas. On theses shots, IIRC, I worked in layers and did a mild NR on the bottom layer and removed the background in the upper layer. Any sharpening and contrast adjustments are made only on the subject on the upper layer. Both sharpening and contrast adjustments will bring out the noise, which is why I use the layer technique.

I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet, so if I'm not making sense here, please ask for a clarification.
