Eurasian Coot

As common as duck here but I have no idea what it is called.

Hi Arthur - it is a Eurasian Coot - Fulica atra.

It is found around the world, and is often found near water across Australia. The adult bird has completely black plumage, a white beak and shield, red eyes and black legs. Interestingly, it has flaps along its toe segemts, which help it to swim.
