"Forceful"
The historic tug "Forceful" with a full load of tourists on the Brisbane River.

For those that may be interested in the history of this vessel:
(Courtesy of http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/ran/hmasforceful.htm) In late 1941 the tug "Forceful" together with the tug "Beaver", towed a floating dock to Darwin. This was the second vessel built at the Evans Deakin's Kangaroo Point shipyard. On 4 December 1941, Forceful was chartered by the British Government for service in the Middle East. Approval for "Forceful" to leave Australian waters was withdrawn in January 1942 after the Japanese had entered the war. "Forceful" had actually already just left Fremantle and was ordered to return to port. On 16 February 1942 she became known as "HMAS Forceful". She was armed with a 20mm Oerlikon Machine Gun and a Vickers Machine Gun. She initially operated out of Fremantle but relocated to Darwin on 20 October 1942. On 4 November 1942, HMAS Forceful was involved in the rescue of six men from a crashed B-26 Marauder off Cape Helvetius on Bathurst Island. "Forceful" is now located at the Queensland Maritime Museum at the South Brisbane Dry Dock adjacent to South Bank parklands. Simon

Thanks BP. Yes it was a busy morning. Sorry about the 'flat' look. The image took a pounding when I re-sized it for posting. The trade-off for having it load faster for dial-ups. Not real sure how I can "lift" it... I'm sure there'll be no hiking involved in the next meet! Simon

Just prior to this shot I got a close up of "Forceful" passing port-to-port beside one of our ultra sleek Citycat ferries. That was really an old-meets-new moment. I'll post the photo here soon. Time for bed now... Last edited by Manta on Mon Apr 25, 2005 12:26 am, edited 1 time in total.

Thanks Chris. Please stay tuned for the version with the Citycat in it. It's a tighter view of the tug and, I think, a nicer image all round. I posted this one first 'cos I liked the architectural backdrop.

The "Forceful" is a grand old tug. We are lucky to see it almost every weekend as it takes its weekly cruise out into Moreton Bay.
I am looking forward to your next post, Simon. A tighter crop and the CityCat should be very viewable. I don't think the lighting did you any favours here - at what time of the day was it shot?

It would work well another way too. You could crop on the bottom part of the frame and make it a vintage black and white or sepia shot without the modern city. No one would even have to know it was a recent shot.  Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now.
Yeah Steve but it's a bugger having to drag around 1.5km of 30m high cliff in order to get good shots like this. The sacrifices we make.... 
It was around 10.00am Trevor. Pretty harsh sunlight to the north east. These were my last outdoor shots that day. Weather got too bloody perfect after that so we had brunch at the Bulimba Bean cafe, home for a late lunch then later on down to the Icon Bar at Raby Bay harbourside to watch the sun go down through a glass of Jack Daniels or two. Tough day... Simon

It's a bugger living in Queensland alright. Just as well we're bred tough.
