Well after spending about 80 % of ANZAC holiday postprocessing the images I took this weekend I am posting my results below. These are more like snapshots compared with the images posted by others over the weekend, but nevertheless:
1. Sunset #1 (handheld, kit lens), first sunset I ever shot.
2. Sunset #2 (handheld, kit lens)
3. Koala (70-300 G lens)
4. Koala again (70-300 G lens)
5. Seal's rock 1 (70-300 G)
6. Seal's rock 2 (70-300 G)
7. Seals rock 3 (70-300 G)
8. Seal's rock 4 (70-300 G)
My apologies for the excessive number of photos.
In need of critique and comments.
Thanks
Alex

Alex, fantastic, a lot of people bag this lens as it cheap but i think it is a great lens for what it is and capable of some nice images. I have used this lens as well with my motorsports with great success as well and well your pics show it all and i love the sunsets.
Well done.
Cheers
John

Alex your sunsets are just fantastic............ Animals are not for me but nice pixs, water scenes....... the last 2 are good except for the highlights, as this area lacks detail. Sometimes you loose detail when you down size

Thanks for the comments, guys. I really appreciate it as I need pointers from more experienced photogs as I just started to use a camera a few month ago.
John,
My first experience with the 70-300 G lens wasn't that good. As I found a lot of images turned out too soft. I first thought it was my technique but I also so that softness wasalso observed in photos taken in excess of 1/500 s shutter speed. Now, I realised that it least with MY lens, I have to avoid the max focal length, so as long as I don't go beyond 270-290 mm, it works well and provided there is enough light it is an excellent lens for the money it costs.
BTW, I saw your rally images today - superb, very sharp!

That's a great selection of photos Alex
So how many cups of coffee did you make when waiting for the computer to post process?
I remember you telling me you had a slowish system.

Alex sorry I missed it when I looked at your pix, but looking again, have you tried to crop your sunsets to a loose pano format {just crop top and a little off the bottom}, I think it might be a bit of an improvement,
Cheers

Thanks, mate.
I had a good sleep the night before
Slowish is a gross understatement. I run on Celeron 500 with 196 MB of RAM and that' running NV, NC and
PS CS concurrently. This piece of junk is long overdue for a replacement.

bp, great idea, Thanks. I think you are right - there is too mush of sky left in both pics.
Cheers

Alex - there is nothing to worry about with these pics. I tend to agree with Big Pix on the crops but overall a fine set of pics.

Thanks for your helpful comments, everyone. Funnily, on my old uncalibrated CRT the first one looks darker and I couldn't see the couple sitting on the pier and a boat in front. But can see them on newer wife's laptop LCD monitor and the monitor in my office.
Cheers

Yes, Darryl. Nice place. Combined a few things in one trip. My mother-in-law is visiting from Thailand
so we took her to have a look, I managed to get a few photos and did some fishing as well

My parents got down to Phillip Island. I was planning on doing it but decided to go to Marysville, Lake Mountain and passed through Warburton. Warburton I think is going to be my next place to go for a day.
