Just a point:
The second one is very dark on the features that matter most on the dawgie! The sunlight behind the subject could be counteracted with some flash... Just a thought... Does'nt mean i am right either.

Dee,

I believe it is a Golden Retriever.

Hi

I like the #1 shot. You would need flash for #2 for fill flash and to have a bit of catchlight in the dog's eyes. Don't use TC1.7 unless really neccessary. You will get sharper pictures as TC degrades the image quality.

Both are sharp pics. Keep up the good work.

regards,

Arthur

Fozzie,

I'm a sucker for retrievers; they're just one of the bestest dogs around.

As others have suggested, a bit of fill flash would have helped to open the shadows up in the second shot.

Flipfrog, Golden Retriever. Same gregarious personality (plus) of their Labrador cousins, but longer fur.

My old lab's best friend was a golden, and the two used to have such great times together .... Now I'm feeling sad because I still miss him, some 15 years on.

Ah welkl, they're nice memories just the same. :)

Beautiful shots Fozzie. I must admit a soft spot for Golden Retrievers myself, although I've never had one of my own. I've had labradors before and my best mate for nine years was a gorgeous Rottweiler that had the personality of a lab. Forced to 'downsize' after losing Rommel to cancer, I now have an ABSOLUTELY MANIC Jack Russel Terrier. What a change!!

Back to the topic...

The first shot depicts a very regal disposition. I'd love to know what the dog is thinking. Being a retriever, it's probably spotted something interesting in the distance that it wants to chase.

Second shot would have been a real winner if not for those rascally shadows, though I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. Have you tried lifting the detail using the shadow/highlight adjustment in PS?

Nah ... probably just an ice cream that some poor kid's about to share with him.

The kid's not yet aware of this though. :)

I will give it a go at home tonight.

Sadly my day job gets in the way of my hobby.

I like both, Fozzie, but think the first one is the best. It's sharp and well exposed. :)

Dog shots are cool. 8)
