Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

hey guys. I am new to the site but have heard some great things. I am open to any critique. I've really enjoyed the enthusiasm and skill I have seen with so many here. This pic was taken in Savannah, Georgia but unfortunatly didnt' meet some of the requirements for the themed photo contest for "3". Netmagi just posted a pic of mine that he had played with in photoshop. He wanted me here, he won. Hope you all enjoy.

Welcome Fellow American Storm -

I like this pic, as well as your hands pic.
Nice composition here. It appears to be shifted a little clockwise. The buildings show it a lot, the fountain just a bit.
I would play with Photoshop's Highlight/Shadows adjustment to try to lighten the fountains slightly and darken the less important buildings some. You may disagree.

Good that you've joined us here! You'll like it.

I understand that Savannah is one of the most picturesque spots in the USA.
I would love to see some more images from there if you have them.
I agree with SCS's comments about the relative foreground darkness & background lightness in your pic.

Storm - welcome. Firstly, your hands shot was superb.

In this shot I would echo the others in that the composition is good but the lighting needs to be reversed. The fountains need more definition and the background could be blown a tad to get what is required.

Savannah will always remind me of Midnight in the garden of good and evil - a superb book that I would recommend to anyone.

thanks to everyone for their generous critiquing. I look forward to sharing more! I will play with the lighting and repost it. I will have more pics of east coast US on the way. I took a 6 week journey around the states. Took many pics. I will be sure to post more of savannah and surrounding area, it was truely a magical place. thanks for all your kind words.

Welcome to the forums Storm and hope you enjoy your stay.

I'd attempt this photo again and use the flash to provide a nice fill light to lighten up the foreground objects. Other than that, it's a good start composition wise. Keep playing with the D70 and I'm sure you'll get heaps of enjoyment out of it. There's a lot to learn but don't give up...it's well worth it ;)
