Blue Skimmer

It's been a while since I posted a pic so thought I might do so. Another dragonfly pic taken at the Mapleton Lilyponds when I was in Qld. The background is a bit messy but that's how it goes sometimes. There were heaps of dragonflies flying around the lilyponds. Taken with the 80-400VR.

Nice photo Nicole. Exposure looks just about right. Although for a blue skimmer it looks fairly light on color. Did it look like this? Or did the sun hit the metallic part (if any parts were) of the body and cause blown highlights? The only thing that really distracts me is the branch that it's hanging off. Might of been better if it was taken more side on so you could see the legs gripping to the branch. But having said that, it's a lot better than my dragonfly/damselfly shots. The best one I've ever taken is with my F80. So need a scanner :(

It wasn't the best time of day to be taking photos (11am) as the sun was bright. I'm pretty sure the colour was a pale blue but it was a few weeks back now.

I have another shot from the side that shows the legs.

I like the 2nd shot a lot better, too. Beautiful detail in the lacy wings.

Cheers

The second one is awesome, Nicole. Great capture. And strangely human looking too, or is that just me starting to think too much like Mic?
