4 random photos from about 230 wedding photos from a friends wedding. Reproduced here with permission.

The photos below were taken with the D70, SB800 and 17-35mm 2.8 and the 85mm 1.4 kindly lent by Birddog. My first and last wedding as photographer.

All processed in Photoshop.

Steve, these are really nice pics as i have said in post before other than doing this for a friend i would not like the responsibility of doing this for job. But you have done well, i have a mate who is getting hitched again and he wants me to do some pics for them which i dont mind 2nd time round for them so no big deal.
How would the 50.. 1.8 lens go for using at a wedding? do u know, or someone eles might know.

I've heard of some bloke who uses ONLY a 50mm lens for weddings and gets great results, but that's with film, so i reckon a 35mm would be fine for digital.

The 50mm 1.8 is a fine lens, so long as you use it no wider than about F4 it will render very nice sharp photos that you can 'de-focus' in photoshop later on.

You have enough talent to do a fine job and i am sure you will do a job that the bride and groom will be happy with. Good luck to you.

I love using the 50mm to capture weddings in the days of 35mm film. It is abit tight now with the crop factor on the D70.

The 2nd pic is with the 85mm 1.4, which i loved so much i bought one.

I really like the first one. For me this is problematic as on close inspection the focus looks odd - couple blurred & background sharp. Yet it works. Maybe this was intentional PP or maybe is just my tired old eyes

I think ONLY using a 50mm 1.8 lens for an entire wedding (film or digital) is not a wise choice, especially for big group shots etc..you'd have to stand a long way back to get a half decent shot. The use of a nice lens like the 17-55DX and perhaps the 70-200VR and then with the addition of the 50mm 1.8 that would be great combination I think. Not putting this idea down, but just putting my two cents worth in. Be interested to see what others think.

same i wouldn't agree with someone using a 50mm for an entire wedding, unless it was some extreme look to their photos i would forgive.
