Im sorry if this post turn up twice, as i thought i posted it this morning but cant seem to find it.

These shots were taken on the Central Coast of NSW last weekend. I was a bit unsure as to which white balance and metering system would give the best results. I ended up using the default matrix and auto WB.

All images taken with 70-300ED lens at the long end and at iso320.

Nice shots apollocat!! The third one is my personal favourite. Firstly, what time of day was it when you shot these? Second - did you shoot in raw? Thirdly- on my monitor they all look to be a LITTLE on the yellow-ish side..maybe cooling them down a bit could enhance them a bit? They are expectionally sharp, be interested to know the other EXIF data from the shoot. Oh yeah, how far away were you physically from this beautiful big bird? Cheers!!

These are good captures, particularly like #2, good timing. Any PP? Just wondering about sharpening. Looks like the light may have been fairly strong too so looks like you've done well. Shot in JPEG or RAW? Using RAW you can always play with WB later (edit): although the WB looks fine to me (but then again I ain't no judge ;-) .

Cheers.

Geoff, thanks for your comments. In answer to your question; the time was mid afternoon 1510, all pics were shot in normal jpeg mode, the distance would of varied from about 15-30m though of course they got to within 1m but weren't flying when they did so. Whenevr i modify pics with PS i lose the exif data, any reason for that??

Mudder, I'm still a little clumsy with PS and they only procesing i did was autocontrast (which seems to give the best result on my monitor), crop a little and use unsharp mask with values 350,0.3 and 10.

Thanks.

Geoff, have you ever seen white birds 100% white? :)
They can be mucky little tikes. However I do agree that they is a small trace of lemon in there. Not much but just back off the warmth a smidgeon.

I think number 2. I love the way his legs are splashing the water......it's like "touchdown". Although it has not quite got the sharpness/focus of number 3, for me it's got a bit more emotion and drama. Well done on them all.

I like the first and third. It's cool the way pelicans come into land. The colours look ok to me too. Nice pics.
