Took my new lens out today. Conditions were not ideal: windy, plus hand held. I definitely need to spend more time with this superb lens.

Pics look really sharp and great colour especially #2. Looks like the lighting was very harsh which would have made it tricky...

Dumb question though , why F13? Just curious...

# 2 is tack sharp with the 200/4, how do you compare it with the Sigma 150/2.8?

We are not comparing apples with apples, plus the price differential - wow. What I can say, is that it is extremely well-balanced, focusing ring is firm and very solid build. Next time I will definitely use my tripod.

Gives us your comparison anyway of the differences, would be interesting to read. Nice images

I must admit hand held is not easy, but this lens is very well balanced in the hand.

Long weekend is coming up 14-16th May (Adelaide Cup Day), so I will get everything together (Gitzo G-1327 tripod/SB-800) and hopefully do a better job, subject to weather of course.

Glen - at the same time I will do comparison shots (Nikon AF 200mm f/4 D ID ED, as against Sigma APO 150mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM , ie identical settings and report back early next week.

mudder - according to Ron Reznick:

The lens is very good at all apertures between f/4 and f/11, but it is best used at wider apertures only at longer range or with a subject that requires maximum isolation at shorter range... f/8 to f/11 provides best results at very close range.]

Wow....a lucky man! Looks like you are already having a blast with the new lens. Are you going to keep the Sigma 150? Not that i can afford it...

Yes, I am going to hold onto the Sigma 150mm f/2.8. Sorry, but I never sell assets. You never know when you need them. This way, I can belong to the Nikon and Sigma clubs .

Even with a long weekend past, the weather, Saturday - rain, Sunday and Monday - fine, but too much wind to carry out comparison. Next weekend is out - Mother's 80th Birthday, so the weekend 28-29th May looks good.

The Sigma 150 f2.8 is alot cheaper than Nikon 200f4. Check it out at stores such as B&H and Adorama. They are not of the same class. Optically and handling, 200F4 is a notch better.
