Also known as the Northern Lights

It's 4:15 am here right now. I just took this pictures 45 minutes ago. It was an incredible sight. I've only seen it a few times in my life. Some pictures may seem a little fuzzy, it was quite windy tonight.

All were taken with kit lens F3.5 @ 30 sec.

Beautiful Neeper!

I have seen the Aurora Australas (southern lights) quite by accident about about 14 years ago. Truely a magical experience! Unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me. What I saw was almost the same, although mine were slightly red as well.

Nice work of Mother nature!

Get up early?? I haven't even gone to bed yet. I was on my way home from my sister's house out in the country and spotted it. I got home, and went back out in the country to snap these pics. I should go to bed now..

Thanks for sharing Neeper... I've never seen that in real life, but your pics give me a good idea what to look out for when I'm next in the North...

The lights can never be spotted when you're in the city. I just happened to be on a dark country road and there it was. It was actually surrounding me 360 degrees. But the strongest lights were exactly due north. The last time I saw the Northern Light I was in a city 300km north of here. And, boy it was crazier than what I saw last night.

Awesome mate, absoloootley awesome.

I really love the one taken from the middle of the road. Reminds me of the posters for Close Encounters of the 3rd kind. :)

Fantastic opportuntity well shot. Well done.

Thanks for the comments guys. I was wondering if anyone can see if improvements can be made. I shot them all in RAW. I did saturate them slightly in PS. I know it's a night shot, but are they too dark? Any tips? Or are they really good as is?

Love the last one, really spooky and I like the pole being in the shot too... Makes it creapy...

Must be amazing to see it "in the flesh"...

Nice work Neeper!.
I spent a very cold night in Fairbanks AK a couple of winters ago trying to get a shot as good as those without any luck.

It is a shame that you can't capture the movement in a still.
