Well, after having the camera for a couple of days but no CF card it was a joy to find the card on the doormat this morning. Having come from a P&S it was a pleasure to use the Nikon for the day, the sound of that shutter going off is music to my ears!

Didn't go crazy today but got a few shots of that I am reasonably happy with:

I was having a few problems with areas being blow out exposure wise, maybe I need to adjust the metering (help would be appreciated). Other than that I can say that I have had a great day with the camera, especially with the DOF which is a joy to play around with.

Thoughts would be appreciated (please be gentle )

Like the second shot in particular, find it really interesting although I'd be tempted to try it focussed on the middle "section" to force the viewer deeper into the image, not sure on #1, seems soft, any PP/USM?

Re: Metering, get familiar with your best friend, the histogram. Also, if you find a scene that is troublesome, you can always revert to spot metering the highlight (depending on how you have your focus lock and metering setup) and then bringing shadows up in PP, but watch out for noise if you push the shadows up a long way.

From your first pic post I am sure that we will see many more great shots from your D70s

Well done Ed. Is this our first official D70s post (not counting D70 members who have got an "s" as a second body).

Thanks for all the feedback. I did shoot the 2nd picture with focus on the 2nd bit but it was shot in landscape so it didn't appeal like the first one.

There is very little PP on these shots. They were resized for the web plus a little bit of levels tweaking. Thats it.

Personnally I especially like the flower shot. Your posting reminded me when I first got my D70 last year, got it a week before my CF card and couldn't wait to use the camera! I just rushed to borrow a mate's 32MB CF card... Enjoy your new camera!

Good stuff! That first day is brilliant isn't it! I was up at 7am (VERY rare for me) to receive my delivery from the beloved birddog last year!

Only other comment i'll make is that i think you have your JPG compression over cranked either in-camera or PP. The reason I say this is cos you can see "chunks" (artifacts) in the complex areas and there's no real sharp edges.

You'll find if you compress your images to between approx 80k-200k (varies depending on complexity of image) you'll get much more pleasing results on the web.

Excellent shots!

Can anyone tell the differences in images produced from a D70 and D70s. Apparently the latter has a newer CCD. I spent hours staring at a comparative shot at http://www.digitalreview.ca/cams/NikonD ... ples.shtml

and cant really pick a significant difference.
