OK - here's a few from last night's shoot. Was a great turnout, although it seems we lost the main group when we went for a look around Luna Park!

Pano, 5 frames stitched together - 50mm tripod (no fancy pano head though  )...

Under the Bridge, kit lens...

Inside Luna Park (which was closed at the time, but surprisingly you can still walk through it!), 50mm 1.8 - handheld...

That's brilliant mate...print, frame and hang! :) Out of curiosity, how long did the panofactory process take to get it looking so schmick?

I think maybe five minutes?
I then threw it into PS for the final levels adjustment and border, then Neat Image for noise reduction.
Looking forward to seeing it printed BIG :) I'm going to load the A4 roll soon, but would really love to see it on A3 roll from the R1800!

Yip - am going to do this before printing any bigger :)
The 110cm long print has just finished and is awesome - very happy, and well worth paying for Pano Factory to get results like this :)

This is a very happy sheepie!

Great pano and under-bridge shot, sheepie!

Did ya'll go Luna Park hunting and lose us when we went to the pub, or was that way before?

We thought ya'll had just left by the time we all packed up and headed to the pub!!!

By the time we got out from Luna Park, everyone had disappeared! We went over to Mrs Macs Chair, but couldn't find anyone :(
Well go back there another night anyway, had pretty much photo'd ourselves out by that stage anyway. I reckon there's plenty around the Domain area, etc to warrant another trip sometime soon :)

Sheepie, we changed order to food at the pub then Mrs Mac. We had a quick walk round the boardwalk and found Ray but didn't realise you were inside. Sorry. Still with the shots you got you couldn't ask for anymore!

It was a good night.

It was the first time i had taken any night shoots and thanks to Gary I got some good results.

Even though I did not get to the pub, I look forward to another outing.

There are certainly some great shots coming out of the woodwork here.

I'll put a couple up later this evening.

And thanx, Glen, for organising this; it was a truly great and fun evening, and for those who didn't make it to the pub, the floorshow there was truly something special.

We certainly had a ball!

Wow Gary hand held! I saw you do bracketing shots but would have never of guessed the result
that image of the moon is amazing, it's so vibrant and crisp, the opera house shot looks true to life, is ISO 200 the sweetspot for night photography with a D70, why is the shutter speed so high(1/400).

Wendell,

The moon is a surprisingly bright object in the night sky, reflecting light from the sun, which of course is exceptionally bright.

For the purposes of shooting the moon, it's self illuminating, and you need to totally disregard the fact that the sky is dark, or that it's nighttime when you're shooting.

Well i like Gary did this when i got my 80-400 VR as well took a shot of the moon hand held, i took mine at 1/125sec and i was surprised at how well it came out. Good shot Gary looks good.

Glen wrote:Gary, when I saw you take that I would never have imagined it would come out that good

Glen,

I am just so impressed with the VR technology. Ok ... 400mm @ 1/400 should be theoretically able to be handheld, but that's not accounting for the crop factor, and there were certainly a few of those shots that, despite the VR, are not clear.

Mind you, I did also drop the shutter speed down in doing my bracketing, shooting down to 1/250 @ f/11. Some of them worked, some didn't, but this one seems to be the pick of the bunch.

I may post one of those too, plus I still have a couple of others to add ...

I should not forget to add that the amount of detail I can see in the shot of the SOH is amazing; while this shot doesn't show it, there's a crane clearly visible above the light source to the RH side of the image, and the tiles on the sails are also quite visible. I may post a couple of 100% crops of those sections of the image just for the hell of it.

OK ... here's a couple of 100% crops ...
