I had a bit of time today, so I thought I might try and join the D70 duck shooters club, but I only managed to make a goose of myself

I agree, great lighting

haw haw haw, great humour John. Personally, I would have liked to see a little less power with the fill flash. But it seems the geese let you get fairly close.

I had a friend who was hospitalised as a result of a gander having a very close gander at the more delicate parts of his person. BTW, nice pic. Foreground lighting may be slightly too strong, but hey, who's nitpicking.

I actually upped the brightness a little as it looked a bit underexposed on my CRT. Now I look at it on my lappie,it looks a tad overdone. Damm monitors, maybe I should mail everyone a print

Nice shots! Geese make great subjects. Suggest you try dialling in minus 0.7 on your flash and the images will look more natural. The lighting is a little overpowering...but just a tad.

Reopened the pic in PS, went to levels, moved the middle slider down about 10%. Is this any better:

Good sharpness there. Good sunny day and use of fill flash gives you great clarity. I can see the "catchlight in their eyes".

One other point, colour temperature on monitors: I have my CRT set to 6500K as it is closest to what my printer spits out. I must remember to review pics at 9300K before I post as that is the colour temperature most monitors and AFAIK all lcd's default to....

And John, are you going to be at the minimeet this week? Want me to bring my Spyder2 for you to borrow? Mind you, I have to say the problem here seems to be too much fill flash rather than a major calibration issue, try -2/3 FEC as Matt K suggests. Mine is always set at -2/3 unless I have the LS2 on, and I haven't quite figured that one all out yet.

Thank you very much for the kind offer. I probably won't know till Thursday or Friday if I can get there (the curse of the self employed), but I'll PM you and take you up on your kind offer if I can.

I'll take the tip on -2/3 if I can translate the manual from the original tlhIngan and work out how to do it

Yes, it is improved and is a good pic.
I think the advice about reducing the power of the flash for future shots is right on the money.
