First 'real' paid shootA friend of a friend contacted me and said she'd heard I "take pictures"
She wanted me to shoot her daughter and boyfriend before they headed off to prom. I had no idea what to charge, so I said I'd do the shoot for free and charge her $5 for 5x7's and $10 for 8x10's (US dollars). She agreed and here's some of the results: More here: http://gallery.netmagi.com/promcouple They were all shot with a Nikkor 50mm f1.4D. That lens is KILLER for portraits. . The customer was extremely happy with the work and has bought $70 worth of shots so far and wants more. I feel all giddy Please comment/critique. -Rich D70, 18-70 DX, Sigma 70-300 APOII, Nikkor 50mm 1.4D, SB800, Bogen 3046 w/Manfrotto 322RC2 ballhead, Lowepro Nova 2 AW
I don't know whether it's just the resized shots, but they all seem to be a little soft. However the composition is good and the skin tones on the first two are nice, but I also think the last couple of shots look a bit cold. Good work though I'm sure the mother is very happy with them.
Nice shots.
Nice girl. He had to spoil it didn't he. Lol. I think that dude must shop here. http://www.pimphats.com/ Btw, wd on the shoot and picking up some payed work. Last edited by kipper on Fri May 20, 2005 8:12 am, edited 1 time in total.

Nice shots and the outfits are great. Couple of comments in my opinion - too much space above their heads - there aren't any full length shots (especially the first two) and you have cut the hands out of the second shot which leaves the picture feeling incomplete - hands on the shot really add to a portrait... again, my humble opinion as a non-paid amateur

Rich - great shots of two young people. Having been paid for many years for my work and the criteria is that the client like the work and they obviously did - well done.
On a more personal note - the girl is very pretty but she had better watch her boyfriend Chris

Rich, congrats on being paid, like the last, they seem to have relaxed by then.
KIpper, I would never have guessed that you had pimphats bookmarked! Those hats will scare the birds, try the ghilli suit instead
Even better: http://www.pimpsuits.net/ Edit: love the composition, especially with the water shots! Great stuff! Last edited by MCWB on Fri May 20, 2005 1:57 pm, edited 1 time in total.

my web server was lagging my connection so I had to turn it off till the match was over.. . sorry guys -Rich D70, 18-70 DX, Sigma 70-300 APOII, Nikkor 50mm 1.4D, SB800, Bogen 3046 w/Manfrotto 322RC2 ballhead, Lowepro Nova 2 AW
NetMagi, great shots
The fella has got a bit of an Abe Lincoln look about him, would be interesting with one of your trademark Black & Whites you do like the process you did on your Haunted House. Might be an interesting look. Mic.
Thanks for all the comments, and yes, some fill flash would have really helped in a lot of the shots. I definetely still have a lot to learn and I was really glad the customer liked the shots.
Here you go Mic: It didn't come out as good as I was hoping. His white suit makes it hard to get that contrasty look with the b&w. -Rich D70, 18-70 DX, Sigma 70-300 APOII, Nikkor 50mm 1.4D, SB800, Bogen 3046 w/Manfrotto 322RC2 ballhead, Lowepro Nova 2 AW
Hi netmagi... like the shots alot... the couple should be very happy.
I hope you don't mind... but i've run one of the shots through an action which i use for 'romantic' type shots.... holla if you have problems with me editing the shot and i'll remove it... cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Please feel welcome to re-post my stuff processed differently anytime. I definetely don't have a problem with it. I can't say I'm sure if I like the effect though. On my monitor it looks a bit muddy, but maybe as a print the effect would come out better.
