My very first black and white.

This is the first time I've decreased the colour depth to a black and white. This is a friend of mine who loves getting her picture taken. Particular things I was looking to get this time was the contours of her back. I only had natural lighting coming in from the side. I'm pretty happy with this shot and it printed just fine even having been cropped about 20 percent.
She's recently qualified to get to Miss Olympia, but I don't think she'll make the trip.

at the subject, don't think I'd like to see her bad side in a dark alley.
Very artistic photo though, the shadows are a bit too dark but I guess it depends on the outcome you're after.

Whiz,
Very good, but not quite enough shadow detail IMHO.
If you shot this in raw, have a bit of a play with the NEF file and try using a different (slightly softer contrast setting) to bring these out a little more.
I suspect that the use of a reflector would have been very nice at the time of making the exposure; it could have helped add some extra light to the face, which is where I feel this is lacking at the moment. It doesn't need much, mind you, but I think it does need a little more.

Good shot whiz, and great to have an interesting and willing subject.
You may like to try using the channels to get your BW conversion - I reckon the green channel would be good for this kind of shot.

Interesting shot, Whiz. I like the high contrast and the composition. I do agree with the notion that the shadows are a little too dark.

I like this, it's something different, good composition. As a few have mentioned, I'd try to get a bit more detail of the muscle definition in her back... Wouldn't give her any lip at the pub either

Thanks guys. Noted. She's keen to do some more so now that I've got a bit more lens selection I should be able to try some more stuff...
