But then the more I looked at #1 the more I liked it... until I was really confused which one I liked more... I like the strong diagonal composition of #2 (the gutter ending in the corner and the wall coming out on a diagonal leading to the arch) but then yes.... The symetry of #1 started to apeal...

It would also have the gutter on the RH side going into the corner, but it shoulkd also include the road wandering off into the distance ...

The first one is my preference. I think the strong leading lines draw you into the shot, whereas on the second one the lines break the image up a trifle too much - especially the suspension wires in top left and right middle of the image.
