Hi All, well on our drive today at the beach had the 80-400VR on with the Kenkos 1.4xTC trying to get some pics of a surfer. Anyhow on the horizon was this sillouette of this ship, i could not read anything onit but seen the the big greyish outline, anyhow the lens brought it up good here is a pic of it.

John,

I'll bet to the naked eye that was just a blip on the horizon. I don't think you'll win POTW with it, but it does show the amazing reach of your setup. In 35mm film terms we are looking at:

400 x 1.4 x 1.5 = a long way

Yes John, i was a bit shocked as well how well it came out considering it was just as you said. Openend my eyes up when i could read the writting on the side of the ship and thought what a strange colour to paint a ship normally they are 2 tone, but yeh anyhow was interesting and just thought i would share it.
Cheers
John

John

It's obviously too late to do this now, but a good comparison would have been to take a shot at say 70 or 80mm too so we could see the speck you got with the big zoom.

Yeh sorry pete i should have done that, but can tell you was just a sillouette of the ship on the horizon. Dont see many of these cruising past our coastline.

I get a heap of them, seeing as I live on the shores of Botany Bay. So just post me the 80-400 and the Kenko, I'll be happy to do some comparison tests

That would be about right Matt, not sure what type she is but looks different from the normal ones you see, maybe it's full of wood chips as that is a big thing down here, and they load at Portland over the border in Victoria.
