We spotted this Nankeen Kestrel with prey in it's talons and captured a few shots of it mid flight. We managed to find where it landed. I managed to grab a few shots and this was the best. Still a bit soft from engine vibration and poor handheld technique. We were going to get closer but the bloody Willy Wag Tail attacked the Kestrel and it flew off. Even before Nicole got a shot. Don't think she was too happy about it.
Not sure what the prey is, looks too big for a mouse. Probably a rat, either that or somebodies HAMSTER!

A very noble looking bird here Darryl, bit soft as you said but well composed. I don't think I have the patience for wildlife shots, especially birds as they are so unpredictable and quick. Our neighbourhood here is literally filled with birds, hawks, sea eagles, lorikeets, magpies, millions of 'em. Never seen so many lorikeets and crimson cheeked rosellas in my life.

I would like to see this one brightened up a little bit with some more contrast, on my monitor anyway.

A wonderful shot though. I love your composition, with the tree and the two birds imitating eachother, it all sits perfectly on the frame, I'd have put them in no other way. Great work.

Thanks for the comments. I'll give it a bit more brightness and contrast to see what that's like. Would of loved to have taken this tack sharp and a bit closer, however taking these shots is very predictable. Everytime we tried to get closer the birds either flew off on their own accord, or a Willy Wag Tail would attack them. Cheeky little buggers!
