Venice wins, every time. :)

Johnny. More excellent pics from your European sojourn. For the I really like the St Gour one above and the one of St Peter's Basilica on the web link.

The only one that I think is a little lacking is The Thinker - the statue is too dark against the bright sky & lot's of detail is missing because of that

Yes, Johnny - a real photographer's eye and excellent presentation of your work. These are seriously good images. BTW, I hope you don't mind me pointing this out, but your pic of Rodin's "The Thinker (Le Penseur)" was, I'm fairly sure, taken in the Musee Rodin in Paris rather than in Rome. I have a picture taken from the same spot in 2003, and the surrounds are identical.

Stubbsy, it is very hard to capture the "blackness" of these statues. Whatever medium was used is really deep, deep black and balancing the contrast becomes problematic. If you lighten the black to get detail, you wash out everything else.

Yep I'm just being extra picky cos these are all so god damn good. Still think the exposure could be brought up a touch by extra work in PS with layering though

Yes, a bit of selection & layering could do it.

Really nice pics Johnny... You have made me feel quite homesick for the historical sites of Europe...

Was that your accommodation in Amsterdam??? It looks like a very dodgy backpackers hostel... Or a very cheap brothel?

Neeper - even if Gary and I disagree about certain matters I totally agree with him on Venice - a city that can be photographed a million times and each pic would be different - love your shots :D

Damn it you're right, it was in Paris. I got mixed up!! I'll have to change it. Thanks for pointing it out.

I figured I should have processed the thinker a little more. I was POURING rain when I was trying to take the picture, and I had to move on to Napolean's tomb. I only took one shot of the thinker, and left. Not much time was put into taking that photograph, and it shows!!

Thanks for all the wonderful comment everyone.

JT, I love the pics. Very well done - you're realising the fruits of your labour. PP'ing so many pics can't be fun, but the results are amazing. You've sold me on Europe. 5 Euro refreshments aside, it's a must do in this lifetime.

Great shots Neeper - You have a definate eye for detail. The colours and scenery sooooo make me want to pack my bags and go backpacking again. :D

So, presuming I'm right about how you did these:

I am curious about your panorama (Nice, France) and why you chose to shoot it with a wide angle lens and then stitch only three shots? For me, the horizon is uncomfortable on the eye (especially as a water line does not curve).

I'm also wondering if you stitched together the Monte Carlo, Monaco pano as there seems to be a stitch line resembling a \ on the left of the M.

Other than those two (as I'm a pedantic bastard), I love the shots and hope you sell a bunch. :D

I honestly know little or next to nothing about panoramas. If you have tips for next time, I would love to hear them!! :)

Very cool shots, Johnny. :D I'm definitely envious of your trip. Maybe if I'd quit buying camera gear, I could afford to go somewhere and use it.

Hi Neeper,

I really like your compositions - you have a good eye and skills.
Did you taste any wine in St Goar or St Goarshausen ?
Did you buy a "Roemer" (roman style wine glass)

Cheers

Wow, thanks for more comments guys. I didn't taste wine in St. Goar, because I don't like wine. However, most my tour group did.

Hi Neeper,

I'm very impressed with your images, they're stunning and it makes me even more anxious for my upcoming holiday to Africa and Europe. I just hope I can take some pictures that are close to the same standard as yours.

Congrats,

Cheers,

Mick.
P.S, I've just sent you a PM asking about the finer points of your holiday travels and arrangements etc.
