Reading a book at the moment which explains that a photograph should make a person feel something when they view your shot..

Here's an image which I think is rather powerful. This shot is on my son who recently lost one of his pet fish... I think the photograph really captures exactly how he was feeling at the time... ?

Thoughts... critique... ?

It does show the emotion at the time... You can tell something sad has happened.

Just a question, and in no way is this a critisism. How did you feel taking this photo? I have always felt a little wierd taken photos of people that are sad or something bad has happened. Not sure what it is???

I felt very very strange... a) because it is my son and instinct says help him and comfort him... and b) because I'm not a fan of seeing people sad...

It's a strange thing how the photo plays with your emotions... each time I view the photo I still want to give him a cuddle and make sure all is okay....

this shot was taken at 220mm, as there is no way i could have got close to him with the way he was feeling at the time...

An excellent photo and you have captured not only a visual element that we can all see but an emotion that easily communicates between the photo and the viewer.

But aw gee - wish I could revive your son's fish and make him feel happy again.

Hopefully he is feeling a bit brighter now - time is usually a great healer.

Lot of meaning with that photos.
1/ We have a tropical fish tank (Salt water) and fish died as per human errors/ not right environmental, etc... and my family members are sad cos they named every fish in the tank and they claimed for their possession, I can imagine and understood about it, please go buy him another fish, so he can rest the other in peace.
2/ I shoot funerals a lot for friends, charity organizations and understood what's emotion and how's people feel? I normally look back some of my shots and my emotion flows in.
3/ The photo of your son can translate to many poems, I think.

Birddog: Cheers... We went out together last Thursday night and chose another fish... not as a replacement, but as another friend.... he is a lot brighter now..
