Some photos from the trip in January. On the way from Lahad Datu to the Danum Valley the guide stopped off at the only Chinese temple in town. It was on top of a hill looking down into a valley. Great spot and an interesting stop. I'm hopeless with architectural shots though so all comments appreciated.

with the middle shot i would have gone in really close so that the 'thingy' filled up the whole frame, it seems to be floating
maybe positioned it on the left of the frame so that less than the whole thing is showing

the last shot seems to curve down on the edge of the uper right hand corner, i would have tilted the camera angle a little more anti-clockwise
just to fix the angle on the roof

i do like the last shot, nice and close and interesting

but im no way a pro

i think the first one is lacking a focal point / true subject. If it IS the statue, then why not move in on it? If it was the entire surrounding area you were after, then i find that not clipping all the other structures would have helped...

pic number 2 is a bit too center weighted, and the bulls eye composition does not work here in my humble opinion...i would have like to see a closer look at the subject, maybe making more of an abstract of the nice colours and textures of this structure.

pic 3. i also find that you have clipped many of the structures which takes away from the overall image. I find it quite busy. If the entracne is your main subject, it is smack dap in the middle again.

great eye on recognizing that there were worth while subjects, but i find that your compositions are lacking in all three....

of course this is only my opinion, and you can tell me to shove it up my a$$ if you choose to

I really appreciate you both taking the time to offer those comments. It really helps. I don't find architectural photography comes as easy as the animals and birds do.

Some of the shots were cropped so i might have a play when i get home tonight and see what else i can come up with.
