Fozzie, I have just displayed 50% of my ornithological knowledge for all on this forum. The remaining 50% is "It's not a duck or seagull".

Hope the others will be more useful, looks like a flying yellow beaked penguin to me. Must say it is a good shot by you, nice combo the 300 + 1.7

Fozzie...you know I can't help myself. I wonder if there is such a thing as a bird nerd?  BTW, it's a Little Pied Cormorant. It is a nice combo and nice shot too.

Fozzie - nice shot. I'm a bit like Glen - but given it has webbed feet and slicked looking feathers I'd say it's aquatic, but then it's a puzzle seeing something aquatic in a tree.

I also like the combo very much. I just need to spend more time with it. This was it's second outing - with plenty of throw aways. Another day, another challenge.

I found the 70-200VR + TC-17EII combo much easier.

It's a yellow-bellied-sap-sucker for sure, no doubt about it...
