This guy has taken up residence near the back door of the house.
I took some shots of it but then decided to try some different ideas.
the first is with a 1 second exposure and a flash mounted behind the spider.
The second is 1/3 sec with a nikon 5t closeup lens but using the built in flash.

unfortunately the wind was moving the web for both shots.
I thought the flash from behind was kinda freaky, almost like a negative.
and the blur on the closeup kinda gave it a glow.
comments please??
would more depth of field on the closeup would improve it or detract??

Nice work avkomp. That is the Garden Orb Spider, great colouring. We had one stay for a couple of weeks, made a huge web in the same plcae every night.

Shot number two is sensational

thanks for the kind words guys.
The orb weaver has been with us for months now, I love to sit and watch him at work.

As for the Nikon 5T closeup lens, I saw an article one time on nikonians d70 forum suggesting that the 5T or 6T when used on the 70-300 enthusiasts kit lens gives you poor mans macro capabilities. Doesnt work too badly, You get almost 1:1 for cheap!! It would probably do the business on other 62mm lenses also.

I used some of my $200 d70 cashback to get one from the states.

G'day,

Dunno about the first, but I love the soft glowing colours in the second... Really eerie...

Can't take any spider shots - they don't live long enough around me.....

I do have a wasps nest though. But they are away for the winter.

That second shot looks 10 ft tall..... <shudder>

Like the detail of the second one, the first one not so much....but I understand what you were going after.

Second shot is very cool - isn’t it nice to know that shots of this nature are MACRO
