Definitely sad. Did anyone give Parks and Wildlife a call to sort it out?
Having been a mad keen beach fisherman prior to moving to TC, I have had my share of bycatch. Sometimes it can be quite heart breaking. Gulls of various species are fairly common, usually fowling the line on long casts and wrapping themselves up. All I can do is reel them in and cut them loose. My worst bycatch was a juevenile dolphin which took a chrome lure. Needless to say that the appropriate people were called in to deal with the situation and fortunately it was released back to its mother after some health checks and removal of the lure.

Yes i have contacted the authorities. Aparantly they dont have a lot of staff on the weekends. Hopefully this week they will catch it and get the hook out. At least it can still eat. I fed it some bread when i was untangling it from the rest of the gear.
BTW - Im glad the dolphin was OK. I think if i was fishing and caught a dolphin and it died i would be so upset.
