very true Daryl. I guess in these instances, you can only capture what the world gives to you. My Sigma 70-300, not being a fantastic lens by any stretch of the imagination, often surprises me - but there are always times when I hit 300mm and think "damn, I still aint close enough" - I know what you mean
At the end of the day, if you the photographer, gets everything correct to give correct exposure, but the lens lets you down because the aperture will only go down to f5.6 (for example), and you really need f4 to make the shot, or you need an extra 100mm to get closer, then I think it's fine to blame either the lens, or the situation.
I guess that's what makes a keeper, a keeper. When it all comes together at the same time, you end up with a great result. If it doesn't, you end up with a "Hard-Drive Filler"
