Just a newbie questions are photography technics, in the 3rd photo where cos the water is reflecting too much light and the actual subject is under exposed. What can you do to over come that? Use Spot Metering? would that over expose the backgroud completely?

I got those kind of shots quite often, never find a good way of solving it.

pretty challenging condition, nature of a wide dynamic range, fundamental limitation of photography ... i actually went for that intentionally, which is just as well because theres not much I could have done about it ... polarisers may help a little, but probably not as its just the nature of shooting into a very bright sun, and trying to capture and preserve shadows.

Generally I didnt take shots when the sun was behidn us, for that very reason.

can recover to a point in post processing, but generally it looks pretty average ;

Like #6 and #8, must have been fun but quite difficult taking photos from a moving boat I imagine!

yah high ISO is your friend ! (rather higher ISO and shoot F7.1 for sharpness.) than dropping to a wider aperture.
