Ahhh can you tell I'm absolutely obsessing over this lens :) The quality from the lens absolutely astounds me. I'd hate to see what I'm like when I get the 70-200VR.... :D

Just a few pics taken around and at work. Apologies if the image size is too big.

Although I do not have this lens I can see from your shots that you enjoy using it - the second from last shot really appeals to my senses :D

Is this the 50mm 1.8?

Chris, that 2nd last shot was straight from the camera :D Definitely recommend it esp at Birdy's price.

Max, yup it's the 50 1.8.

Learnt a 2 things today:
1) How swell the 50mm 1.8 is
2) Tricks with EV compensation set to - instead of +

Hi Piro, like the 2nd and 4th shot, but send your lens back, on my screen the delete, end and arrow keys are all out of focus

Nice shots piro. Love the tricks you can play with the focus on this lens. Couldn't quite see the pics properly as my adsl has been shaped and it's slow as a wet week without a camera.

Keep up the good work!

These are great, so sharp, especially the no standing sign. I gotta get me one of these!

I'm a sucker for signs and repatition (3&4).

The sign is so crsip :) I love prime lens

The gate image(4#) is perfect in my mind. Focus, lighting subject, DoF. Amazing. I'm not even sure if you were trying for artistically correct images or just snapping away. Either way, you got what I like in 4#!

Nice shots. I have to put my own prefs in for the 2nd-last and the no standing sign. Its great having a lens with a nice close min distance and shallow DOF isnt it 8) The 50 1.8 is a great lens!

As far as sharpness v's the 70-200, you might be a little disappointed. Certainly in comparison to my 80-200 2touch, the 50mm is sharper and more contrasty. Will post some comparisons of the 70-200 v's the 50 once my 70-200 and camera arrive back from the repair shop.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the great comments :D

Wade, the gate photo was a bit of a creative accident :) I knew the result I wanted from the gate, but I had the wrong WB setting which enhanced it even more.

Robboh, I wouldn't mind seeing the comparisons but not as if i'd drop the 70-200VR for a 50 1.8 ;) It's definitely a case of apples and oranges then :)

Hi Jeff,

All the photos were taken at f1.8 except for the 2nd and 3rd photos which were taken with f4.

f1.8 was slightly unpredictable for me as where I thought the spot where it would be in focus turned out to be OOF but a small area above was in focus :S

Nice demonstration of the potential. Has anyone got some 50 1.4 shots for comparison with the D70? Are there any significant differences apart from the obvious 1.4 difference?

As total luck would have it, a guy @ my work has lent me his 50mm f/1.4d "until he wants it back"

So as long as it doesn't rain all weekend I'll get some 50mm f/1.4d shots up here.
