Those look pretty good for your first night shots. I like the first 2 the best. Are you sharpening your shots after you resize them for web display? If not, I'd suggest giving it a try. A couple of these would pop nicely with a little sharpening.

What white balance setting were you using?

That's probably the cause. If you shot raw, you can play around in NC and see what happens. The lights on the buildings are probably metal halides, which might look better with a fluorescent light wb setting, either that or try to find a similar light where you can get close enough to set the wb with a grey card (or expodisc, pringles lid or whatever).
Cheers

Hi gmaster again, I'm surprised you didn't bump into one of our friendly
moderators Glen, you were practically at his back door, or in his backyard

G'day gMaster. Very nice shots you have there. I like the 4th one the best. 3rd shot is a wee bit overexposed IMO.

Just played around with the wb with the NEF files , now it is less green ... and a bit of NR work ...
Oh need to refresh your browser so it loads the new images ..

Awesome bunch of shots. Makes me want to (a) get a tripod & (b) visit Sydney to take some night shots while the bridge & sails are still there.

Very nice photos,
and thank you for the shooting details.
Did you use aperture or shutter priority or did you go manual ?
Once it gets warmer again in Canberra I'll be out at night to do some shots.
Cheers,
CD

Welcome
Nice shots of our beautiful harbour
Just a tip if you have the time to compose
For nice framing i find it helps the shot so at least 1 or 2 elements meet up in either corner
I cropped the top of your image todemonstrate

stubbsy ... well the tripod i use is the cheapo <AUD$10 i bought while i was in Hongkong a while back .... it does the job pretty fine for me so far haha ..just take a lot longer to get it stablised ...
And when u come Syd ... i will be glad to go for another nite shot session with a Verteran like u ...

Manual ... Only use A or S when in a hurry ..

Hi wendellt, dont' quite understand your tip ... do u mean that some elements should meet one of the four corners of the frame?
Your crop does make it abit more standout .. nice tip.. i will try it next time I take some landscapes. ..

Thanks for the offer - might take you up on it.
BTW I'm only a veteran if you take my post count into account. I only got my first camera in 2002 and my D70 in December 05 so I'm still on my P's
